2019 CCAD Art Fair & Marketplace Preview: standing out with macramé art

By day, Katria Judkins (Advertising & Graphic Design, 2017) is a graphic designer at Bath & Body Works. To unwind and switch gears after work, she weaves together yarn to make handmade macramé home decor and tapestry. Her textured, modern wall hangings, plant hangers, framed weavings, and functional keychains, priced at $10 to $250, will be on sale at the CCAD Art Fair & Marketplace on Saturday, Dec. 7, 2019. You can also find her goods in her online shop, Nora’s Market, on Etsy and Instagram. Read more from Judkins below.

What can people expect to see from you at the CCAD Art Fair & Marketplace?

Expect to see macrame and fiber pieces all handmade by me. Also expect to see an amazing booth setup that was thoughtfully put together to create a festive space to shop right before the holidays!

What’s your philosophy/perspective behind your work?

The perspective behind creating my work is making art with my hands and creating interesting compositions with yarn and color. I’m a full-time graphic designer, so this more organic, hands-on work is different from my job and keeps me sane.

Why did you want to participate in the CCAD Art Fair? What kind of significance does it have to be selected for it?

Participation in CCAD’s art fair is important to me because it gives you a sense of validation in your work. CCAD’s jury thinks my work is good enough to sell at their event and then people show up and pay money for your craft! It feels gratifying as an artist.

How has your CCAD education influenced the work you will be offering for sale?

One thing I’ve learned from CCAD is that as an artist you have to stand out. I’m not the only one making macrame but I like to keep my pieces fun, colorful, new, and original. You won’t see boring, beige art because that’s not what I do.
