2019 Spring Art Fair preview: a colorful approach

mckenna sackman

McKenna Sackman (Illustration, 2020) brings her feel-good art and design to the CCAD Spring Art Fair for the fourth time on Saturday, April 6, 2019. Sackman, from Springboro, Ohio, will be selling statement earrings and pins, ceramics, totes, and more colorful knicknacks, priced at $5$35. She hopes pieces like her “bright and crazy” earrings help people feel unique and “a littler sassier.”

What can people expect to see from you at the CCAD Spring Art Fair?

I will be selling a wide variety of statement earrings and a number of pins/brooches, all hand-sculpted and hand-painted. As well as a few ceramic pieces, prints, tote bags, and other colorful nick nacks.

What’s your philosophy/perspective behind your work?

I love to create bright and whimsical art. My hope for any of my art, whether it is a print or a pair of earrings, is that it has a positive effect and helps someone feel good.

Why did you want to participate in the CCAD Spring Art Fair? What kind of significance does it have to be selected for it?

I believe this is a great way to understand the costs of doing business and selling goals. Not only is it fun creating and preparing things, but it is also educational. I feel as though I have grown as a business person and artist from doing the art fair.

How has your CCAD education influenced the work you will be offering for sale?

It has encouraged me to take risks and try things that I haven’t before. CCAD has opened my eyes to how many different styles of art there are.
