Academic leader Dr. Jennifer Schlueter named Dean of Graduate Studies at CCAD
Columbus College of Art & Design is pleased to announce the appointment of accomplished academic leader Dr. Jennifer Schlueter as the college’s first Dean of Graduate Studies.
Dr. Schlueter comes to CCAD from The Ohio State University, where she worked as an Associate Professor, served as a Faculty Fellow in Curriculum at the Graduate School, and founded and produced a student-driven, department-nurtured performance research laboratory called The Lab Series.
At CCAD, Dr. Schlueter will provide oversight for the college’s two graduate programs—the Master of Fine Arts in Visual Arts: New Projects and the Master of Design in Integrative Design. And she will oversee graduate admissions and assessment of programs and provide strategic leadership in developing new programs.
She will start in his new position at CCAD on Aug. 1, 2019, and will report to Provost Dona Lantz.
“Dr. Schlueter’s previous experience in guiding curricular initiatives at the graduate level and her standing as a creative leader with strong networks in Columbus is exactly what CCAD was looking for in this new visionary position,” says CCAD Provost Dona Lantz. “Plus, Dr. Schlueter brings a deep commitment to interdisciplinary learning and creation and is a systems thinker—both valuable assets to CCAD’s graduate programs.”
In addition to CCAD’s graduate programs, Dr. Schlueter will also oversee the college’s renowned Beeler Gallery, a premier contemporary art exhibition space, and the MindMarket, a collaborative space that connects the college with the private sector, government, non-profit, and for-profit industries. Each of these public-facing programs has deep connections to Graduate Studies curriculum, faculty, and students.
Dr. Schlueter said she’s looking forward to joining CCAD as the college celebrates its 140th anniversary.
“I’m excited to come to CCAD because of its long history of creative excellence,” Dr. Schlueter said. “It’s a robust institution—and it’s not just what you see on paper, which is a world-class college, but its faculty and students are incredible.”
In addition to her work as a teacher and academic leader, Dr. Schlueter is a practicing artist interested in interdisciplinary creation. Her creative works, many of which transform found text into performance events, have been produced by a number of venues and outlets, including American Theater Company (Chicago), Off Broadway at 59E59 Theaters, and BBC Radio 4. She was recently awarded an Ohio Arts Council Individual Excellence Award.
She has a Bachelor of Arts in Theatre from Truman State University in Kirksville, Missouri; a Master of Arts in Theatre History, Literature, and Criticism from The Ohio State University; and a PhD in Theatre History, Literature, and Criticism from The Ohio State University.
