Adjunct Instructor, alumna revives centuries of tradition in solo painting show

Revisiting Old Masters: New Works by Mariana Smith, a solo exhibition by the adjunct instructor and Fine Arts alumna (CCAD 2002), was recently on display at Hammond Harkins Gallery in Bexley, OH.

The exhibition consisted of works inspired by Renaissance and early Baroque miniature paintings.

In 2013, Smith was the recipient of a Dresden Residency from the Greater Columbus Arts Council and traveled to Germany to study miniature paintings at the Gemäldegalerie Alte.

The works she produced there and upon her return are contemporary interpretations of themes and surface modeling techniques that she encountered in her research.

Smith grew up in Russia, where she studied painting and fine art at Moscow College of Applied and Industrial Arts, and moved to the United States in 1992.

Smith lives in Dublin, OH.
