Alumna has solo show in New York

Media Studies alumna Manjari Sharma (CCAD 2004) has a solo exhibition, Darshan: Photographs by Manjari Sharma, at ClampArt in New York City, Sept. 12–Oct. 12, with an artist’s reception Sept. 12, 6–8 p.m.

The exhibition will feature Sharma’s recently completed photography project Darshan, in which she photographically recreated classic images of Hindu gods and goddesses.

The series, which has been two years in the making, features nine gods and goddesses. Creating each photograph required the help of nearly three dozen people. This included creating the set, costumes, jewelry, props, makeup, and more. The first image alone took more than three weeks to put together and cost nearly $5,000. After creating that image, Sharma turned to KickStarter.com to gather funding to finish her project; she raised nearly $26,000.

While Sharma was working on these images, Darshan was featured in the The New York Times, Forbes India, Huffington Post, and Yoga Journal.

Sharma is from Mumbai, India, and now lives in Brooklyn, NY.
