Alumna installs sculpture on college's library

Fine Arts alumna Olga Ziemska (CCAD 2000) recently finished installing her sculpture at the Columbus State Community College (CSCC) main library. The piece was commissioned by CSCC and the Ohio Arts Council as part of the Percent for Art program.

The sculpture, Indra, consists of stainless steel circles and symbols. Ziemska surveyed more then 200 students to help her choose the symbols, many of which represent current areas of study at the school.

"The shadows that are cast and the way [the piece] reflects different things is constantly changing. That is the really exciting thing," Ziemska said in a CSCC video.

Ziemska lives and works in downtown Cleveland, OH, in a studio by Lake Erie. She has received many prestigious grants and awards including a Fulbright Fellowship in 2002 and a Creative Workforce Fellowship in 2009. She has participated in several residencies, and her work has been shown nationally and internationally.

The installation of Ziemska's piece was part of a multi-million-dollar project to remodel the library. The Percent for Art program provides funds for the acquisition, commissioning, and installation of works of art for new or renovated public buildings that receive state appropriations.
