Alumnus designs poster for a worthy cause

Life at CCAD, Orange and white text on a black background reads "Ohio rugby sevens invitational tournament". Orange graphic of rugby player diving at a ball slightly overlaps the text in the upper right hand corner.

The poster for the Ohio Rugby Sevens Invitational Tournament was designed by CCAD alumnus Bob Sloan.

Alumnus Robert Sloan (CCAD 1981) designed the posters for the upcoming rugby invitational and fundraiser, The Ohio Rugby Sevens Invitational Tournament. The event will be held May 28, 9 a.m., at the Mechanicsburg High School Stadium to honor the life of Terry Larrimer.

Coordinated by Sloan’s brother-in-law, the event features eight rugby teams participating for the chance to win the Larrimer Cup. All proceeds from the event will be donated to the Columbus Foundation where a scholarship has been established in Terry’s name.

“I wanted to give the poster a graphic sensibility that was popular during the 1960s—heavy type and little graphics—since much of the memorabilia at the tournament will be photos of Terry and his teammates from that era,” said Sloan. “I didn’t want my graphics to compete with the photos.”

Larrimer was a prominent Columbus attorney who lost his battle to cancer three years ago. From 1968-1990, he was a member of the rugby teams of Princeton University, University of Michigan, Sud Americano in Washington DC, The Ohio State University, and the Scioto Valley Rugby Football Club.
