Alumnus shows work at the Butler Institute of American Art
Illustration alumnus John Jude Palencar (CCAD 1980) had his painting Pagan accepted into the Butler Institute of American Art’s annual national juried show, the 77th National Midyear Exhibition.
The show, which ran July 30–Aug. 18, was open to artists over the age of 18 working in two-dimensional media. Jurors for this year’s show were North Carolina gallery owner Jerald Melberg and Western Pennsylvania painter Thomas G. McNickle.
The Butler Institute of American Art houses a world-renowned art collection that spans more than three centuries of U.S. history.
Palencar has illustrated hundreds of book covers published in more than 30 countries. His work has graced the jackets of books by such well-known authors as Marion Zimmer Bradley, Stephen King, H.P. Lovecraft, Ursula Le Guin, and more. He also has worked for national publications including National Geographic, TIME, and Smithsonian magazine.
