Beeler Gallery exhibitions earn attention in the press

Life at CCAD, Alan Shields: A Different Kind of Painting at Beeler Gallery

The latest exhibitions at Beeler Gallery are garnering attention in the media.

Alan Shields: A Different Kind Of Painting and Stitch, curated by Associate Director of Exhibitions Ian Ruffino, are on view Aug. 22, 2017, through Jan. 2, 2018 at Beeler Gallery.

Columbus Alive recently interviewed Ruffino and wrote about the exhibitions.

"Shields' ideas were influenced by architecture. He also studied set design and engineering," Ruffino told Alive. "He was at the center of a huge cultural shift, looking at the way people live, the spaces where people live and how they were changing and evolving. He wanted his artwork to be adaptable to those spaces, to new kinds of architecture."

Alan Shields also won praise from The Columbus Dispatch, which called the show "eye-opening."

"Shields’ boldly designed pieces have a free-form vivacity that stands out amid the stark, white-walled environment of the Beeler Gallery," wrote reviewer Peter Tonguette.
