CCAD grad Dan Scanlon nominated for an Oscar

The CCAD community will be eagerly tuning in to the 93rd Academy Awards on Sunday, April 25, 2021 to cheer on alum Dan Scanlon (Illustration, 1998), Vice President, Creative at Pixar Animation Studios. Scanlon earned an Oscar nomination in the Best Animated Feature Film category for "Onward," which he directed and co-wrote. He was also an executive producer on "Soul," which is nominated in the same category. In a recent article in The Columbus Dispatch Scanlon reflects on his days at CCAD and how he rediscovered his love for animation while here.

“It [CCAD] really taught me more about being accountable, scheduling my time and doing the hard work of being professional than it did (about) art — or as well as it taught me (about) art,” he said in the Dispatch story by Peter Tonguette. “I still have a work ethic to this day that has helped me because of that school.”

Chair of Animation and Professor Charlotte Belland is quoted in the story, reflecting on a virtual visit Scanlon had with CCAD students last May. Columbus cartoonist Jeff Smith is also quoted. Read the full story
