CCAD relaunches faculty exhibitions with Triennial Exhibition

As Columbus College of Art & Design celebrates our 140th anniversary, we’re relaunching the tradition of a faculty exhibition.

The CCAD Faculty Triennial Exhibition opens Aug. 1, 2019, at Beeler Gallery and runs through Sept. 6, 2019, with a closing reception on Sept. 6, 2019, from 5 to 7 p.m. The show is free and open to the public.

The exhibition was curated by Lucy I. Zimmerman, Assistant Curator of Exhibitions at the Wexner Center for the Arts, and features work by 15 CCAD faculty members.

“It has been a privilege to serve as juror for the CCAD Faculty Triennial,” Zimmerman says. “Out of nearly 50 applications, I have tried to capture work across a broad range of media and disciplines while remaining uncompromising in my commitment to show the strongest work.”

The work ranges from painting, sculptural work, and installation to film, ceramics, and poetry, and explores a number of different themes and concerns, including politics, technology, motherhood, and the central Ohio community.

“The tone of the work included ranges from critical and conceptually rigorous, to celebratory, demure, hopeful, playful, even funny,” Zimmerman says. “I’m honored to showcase the work of these talented individuals and applaud the energy and output of not just those selected for the exhibition, but all the CCAD faculty members sustaining active practices.”

The show came about thanks to Provost Dona Lantz, who worked with faculty members and Beeler Gallery staff, including Fine Arts & Contemporary Crafts Chair Tim Rietenbach and Beeler Gallery Registrar Marla Roddy, to relaunch the tradition of having a juried show of faculty work at CCAD.

“Our faculty are incredibly talented artists and designers,” Lantz says. “They often showcase their work around Columbus and across the country, but we want to showcase their work on campus, too.”

CCAD President Melanie Corn agreed.

“This show is an opportunity to celebrate our faculty and demonstrate their successes, not only as educators, but as professionals in a variety of creative fields,” Dr. Corn says.
