CCAD students show off their Creative Best at CSCA Awards
Columbus College of Art & Design students took home several awards at the Columbus Society of Communicating Arts’ 2017 Creative Best.
CCAD’s Student Agency — a student-staffed, in-house design agency — received several Awards of Merit, including the following:
- Award of Merit in the Environmental category for their Thrive Mural, from designer Roman Cartagena (Illustration, 2018), and painters Francis Amisola (Animation, 2019), Lily Dent (Advertising & Graphic Design, 2019), Abby Dillon (Advertising & Graphic Design, 2018), Alma Kim (Illustration, 2020), Essie Tarver (Animation, 2018), Hannah Wheeler (Illustration, 2020), and Katherine Williams (Animation, 2019).
- Award of Merit in the Print Commercial Category for the CCAD Viewbook. Contributors were creative directors Patrick Crawford, Jill Moorhead (CCAD Executive Director of Marketing and Communications), and John Rice; designer Ashleigh Harvey (Advertising & Graphic Design, 2016); photographers Kyle Benson, Taylor Gamble, Ally Gille, and Annie Noelker (all Photography, 2018); and copy editors Jeannie Nuss (CCAD Senior Media Relations Specialist) and Jennifer Wray (CCAD Writer).
CCAD students also received the following recognition in the Student category:
- Lucas Himes (Advertising & Graphic Design, 2017) took home a Best of Category Award for his transgender support social cause campaign. His instructor was Advertising & Graphic Design Adjunct Instructor Jason Moore.
- Allie Vanaman (Animation, 2018) received an Award of Excellence for her animated short The Finvestigations of Sharklock Foams. Her senior capstone project was supported by Animation Assistant Professor Andrew Friz and Animation Adjunct Instructor Nikki Lemon; Vanaman served as director/animator/writer on the project.
- Morgan Bentley (Advertising & Graphic Design, 2018) received an Award of Excellence for her work conceiving of an Anthropologie catalogue redesign. Bentley was art director and stylist; the project’s photographers were Hannah Mendel and Annie Noelker (both Photography, 2018); Larry Mitchell (Fine Arts, 2018) was set assistant; and Kerry Boganwright and Liz Cansfield (both Advertising & Graphic Design, 2018) were models for the project. Bentley also won an Award of Merit for her social cause campaign Pom Pom Baby. Bentley was art director and stylist on the project; Mendel and Noelker were photographers; and Payton Hoang (Fine Arts, 2018), Jamilla Kato (Photography, 2017), Liz McManus (Fine Arts, 2017), Riley Rocco (Illustration, 2018), Gabrielle Shamon (Industrial Design, 2017), and Isabella Silveria were models. Advertising & Graphic Design Associate Professor James Lutz was the instructor on both projects.
- Sarah Moore (Advertising & Graphic Design, 2017) took home an Award of Excellence for The Lunch Project, a social cause campaign. Moore was creative director, designer, and illustrator for the project. Moore also was recognized with an Award of Merit for her thesis project Confluence; Taylor Quincel did construction/software applications. Advertising & Graphic Design Associate Professor Matthew Mohr was the instructor for both projects.
- Katie Schwendeman (Advertising & Graphic Design, 2019) received an Award of Merit for her type design for Katz Box. Schwendeman was creative director/designer on the project; Liz Cansfield was the designer; West-Camp Press was the printer; Toby Katz (Industrial Design, 2017) is the founder of Katz Box; and Advertising & Graphic Design Associate Professor and Chair Joshua Bodman was the instructor on the project.
- Kerry Boganwright (Advertising & Graphic Design, 2018) received an Award of Merit for Rime Time Gourmet Pops, a small business promotion. James Lutz was instructor on the project.
In addition, Ologie took home an Award of Excellence in Print Commercial for its work on the 2017 CCAD Fashion Show Lookbook. A number of CCAD alumni, working on projects for the likes of Spacejunk, Igloo Letterpress, Fulcrum Creatives, Logan Schmitt Illustration, and Making Midwest, also were recognized with awards at Creative Best.
