Fashion Design students win big

Three Fashion Design students recently won recognition from the International Textile and Apparel Association.

Carrie Ackley (Class of 2019) won the ITAA Regent’s University London: Fashion Design Award, and Carissa Gooding (Class of 2019) and Damien Tobi (Class of 2018) both had work accepted for the ITAA Creative Design Scholarship Exhibit.

“These are very competitive programs, and we are thrilled for the students, the department, and CCAD,” said Rebecca Robinson, Interim Chair of CCAD’s Fashion Design program.

Only 37% of entries were accepted for the juried exhibit during the ITAA National Symposium to be held in November 2017 in St. Petersburg, Florida. Gooding’s knit dress, Evening Interlock, is constructed of repurposed plastic bags. Tobi’s wool suit, Power, features exaggerated shoulders, a custom print lining, and hand beading. Both Gooding and Tobi will be eligible for additional awards that will be presented at the symposium.

Tobi also won the ITAA Eden Travel International Design Award, which sponsors a 2-week internship with British fashion designer Zandra Rhodes in London.

Ackley’s award comes with $5,000 toward a semester of study in London. She will be recognized for her award at the ITAA Annual Meeting in St. Petersburg, Florida, also in November 2017.
