IMERSA 2018 to screen student team's fulldome film

A short film by a team of CCAD students has been selected to air on COSI’s dome-shaped screen during IMERSA Summit 2018, Feb. 24 – 27. Each year, filmmakers from a range of backgrounds submit work to be featured and acceptance is competitive.

IMERSA, which stands for Immersive Media Entertainment, Research, Science & Arts, is an annual international summit about large-scale digital experiences created by the fulldome, planetarium, giant screen, virtual reality, and themed entertainment communities. Its participants attend panel discussions and workshops on the future of this big-picture theater movement that merges art and science.

Representing business and production sectors alike, the summit at COSI is a chance for industry professionals (and Ohio students, thanks to COSI) to shape and set trends. Collision, the title of the short created by CCAD students, will no doubt influence the discussions — many of the top film selections for this year’s event were art films.

Collision will air on the fulldome at 5:30 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 25 as part of the summit’s Art Matters session, featuring a discussion by local dome lab artists as well as Producer Dani LeBlanc from Boston’s Museum of Science. Other films being screened during Art Matters incorporate a live performance of synthesizer music, real time 3D visuals, and surround sound to tell the stories of the universe.
