Massive work on view in Beeler Gallery

Four titans of the contemporary art world are on view in Beeler Gallery, each bringing larger than life work to the walls (and ceiling) of the gallery.

And the press is taking notice.

The Columbus Dispatch recently wrote about the colossal works of Aaron Fowler, Robert Melee, Jessica Jackson Hutchins, and Julie Schenkelberg.

“The artists have a propensity to think big,” reporter Peter Tonguette wrote. “Many of their pieces are immense in scale; several dominate their rooms in the gallery.”

In Columbus Underground, writer Jeff Regensburger focused on Aaron Fowler: Tough Love, praising the immense works in the exhibition.

“Tough Love is timely in that current events have pushed the issue of race in America to the fore in ways we haven’t seen in a generation,” Regensburger wrote. “It’s challenging in that it forces viewers past easy and readily accepted narratives. It’s visually engaging in that, well, just look at it. The works burst at the seams and pop off the walls.”

Aaron Fowler: Tough Love, Robert Melee: Semi-Quasi-Bower Recreational, Jessica Jackson Hutchins: Cool Wake, and Julie Schenkelberg: Lemurian Shift are on view now through Sept. 10.
