Meet the winners of the 4th Annual CCAD Creative Writing Awards

For the fourth year, Columbus College of Art & Design students were encouraged to submit works in the category of poetry, prose, and screenwriting for a chance at a cash prize and possible publication in Botticelli magazine.

The CCAD Department of Writing, Literature, and Philosophy announced that this year’s winners, judged anonymously by outside (non-CCAD judges). They are the following:

Prose (Fiction/Nonfiction)

First place: Sky Dai (Fine Arts, 2019), I Didn’t Realize How Hard It Was to Drown Yourself Until I Tried (nonfiction)

Second place: Han Donovan (Comics & Narrative Practice), Sophie’s Sky (fiction)

Poetry

First: Sky Dai (Fine Arts, 2019), I am a Stranger

Second: Lauren “Sprout” Reed (Film & Video, 2021), Ode to River Phoenix

Screenwriting

First: Samuel Koh (Film & Video, 2019), Ad hominem

Second: Amber Struble (Animation, 2021), Space Shenanigans

First-place winners took home $300 and will have an excerpt published in a print version of Botticelli. Second-place winners receive $100 and possible publication in a future online version of Botticelli.

Annie McGreevey judged prose submissions, Hannah Stephenson judged poetry submissions, and Matthew Evans judged screenwriting submissions. All winners are invited to read at Red Wheelbarrow during Ohio Health Presents Chroma: Best of CCAD | The 140th Annual Student Exhibition on Wednesday, May 8, from 7:15 to 8:15 p.m.
