Not-really-selfies by MFA alumnus on display in Short North

Photographer Jason Schwab (CCAD 2014) joins two other Ohio photographers in a self-titled show on display through July 26 at Roy G Biv Gallery in Columbus' Short North Arts District.

Described as "introspective" by Columbus Alive magazine, Dominic Lippillo | Jason Schwab | Jessica Naples includes photographs by Schwab that resemble selfies. In reality, they're shot in front of printed backdrops. The finished works are displayed in faux household objects.

"Much of my work has the appearance of self-portraiture, which I use as a tool to trigger the audience to consider their role in the subjects I am presenting," Schwab said in his artist statement.

"Since almost everyone can be a photographer with today’s technology, using this medium is a direct way of critiquing these contemporary issues in a language many can relate to.

An artist talk will be held on July 26 at Roy G Biv Gallery, 997 N. High St., Columbus, OH, 43201.

Schwab, an MFA alumnus, is from Bethlehem, PA.
