Columbus College of Art & Design’s Student Government Association encouraged the campus community to put their phones down, interact with one another, and instead engage in hands-on activities and make real-life connections as part of Unplugged Day on Wednesday, Feb. 13. Industrial Design blog Core77, WBNS-10TV, WCMH, WTTE, Columbus Monthly, and The Columbus Dispatch covered the SGA initiative. Professor Hiroshi Hayakawa (Photography, 1995) will have work in the latest volume of International Drawing Annual 12: a publication by Manifest Creative Research Gallery and Drawing Center in Cincinnati. The publication also includes work by Tamie Beldue (Fine Arts, 1996). Read more here.

CORE Studies Professor Emeritus Charlene Fix discussed poetry and the impact working with and teaching artists at CCAD had on her practice in a conversation with Bidwell Hollow, a spoken word narrative podcast. Hear more here.

Fourteen Advertising & Graphic Design students and recent alumni created work that received first- or second-place prizes at the Columbus American Advertising Awards (ADDYs). The winners will be named on Friday, March 1, and will move on to a regional competition. Read more here.

Marshall Shorts (Industrial Design, 2006) joined in a panel discussion on WOSU’s “All Sides Weekend” to discuss the impact of African American visual artists (including the late Aminah Robinson, a former CCAD student) in Columbus and beyond. Hear more here.

Ariel Peguero (Advertising & Graphic Design, 2016), co-curated the exhibition Hidden Layers, which shows traditional artists exploring augmented reality tech for the first time. An artist reception for a new exhibition of work by Kate Morgan (Media Studies Still-Based, 2008) at the Marcia Evans Gallery will be Friday, March 2, at 5:30 p.m. Morgan’s work is on view at the gallery through Sunday, March 31. Morgan, along with two other artists with work on view in the gallery, was recently featured by Columbus Alive. Read more here.

History of Art & Visual Culture Chair and Associate Professor Jeannine Kraft recently presented “Collaborative Practices to Activate Social Engagement: An Art History Case Study” at the College Art Association conference in New York on Wednesday, Feb. 13. Read more here.

Alissa Ohashi (Master of Fine Arts, 2019) will have work in Filter Photo Annual Survey Exhibition: Context 2019 in Chicago. The juried exhibition of contemporary photography is on view March 22 through April 27, with an artists’ reception on Friday, March 29. Read more here.
