The late Animah Robinson, a renowned artist from Columbus who first took Saturday Morning Art Classes at CCAD in 1955, formally enrolled as an undergraduate in 1957, and was awarded an honorary master’s degree by then-President Joseph V. Canzani, is the subject of the new children’s book Aminah’s World, an Ohioana Book Award finalist published by the Ohio University Press. Read more here.
A number of CCAD grads and faculty are included in the Ohio State Fair’s 2019 Fine Arts Competition in the Professional and Amateur categories. The winning entries are eligible for cash awards and will be on view at the state fair in Columbus July 24–Aug. 4. Read more here.
Freelance illustrator and comics artist A. D’Amico (Illustration, 2016) first worked with writer Mikki Kendall on a comic for the anthology Spitball 2 at CCAD. More recently, D'Amico and Kendall went on to collaborate on a new graphic novel—Amazons, Abolitionists, and Activists: A Graphic History of Women's Fight for Their Rights, which will be published this November. Artist Alice Schille attended what was then the Columbus Art School (now Columbus College of Art & Design) and was a faculty member from 1904 to 1948. Schille, a leading artist of the first half of the 20th century, and subject of Columbus Museum of Art’s exhibition In a New Light: Alice Schille and the American Watercolor Movement, on view through Sept. 29, was featured in the June issue of Columbus Monthly magazine. CCAD grad and Board of Trustees member Dr. Robert Falcone (Master of Fine Arts, 2016) has work on view at Lindsay Gallery. Paradise Lost opens Friday, Aug. 2 from 6 to 9 p.m. and features paintings of disembodied orchids floating in black and gold to refer to our planet's ecological crisis. Read more here.
