Starz original series earns Emmy award for alum's visual effects

“When visual effects artists do their jobs well, the world takes note, which makes winning an Emmy award that much sweeter,” said Steve Hubbard (CCAD 2010).

Hubbard was the 3D supervisor on Black Sails, a Starz original series that took home awards for Outstanding Special and Visual Effects in a Supporting Role and Outstanding Sound Editing for a Series at the Television Academy's 2014 Creative Arts Emmy Awards in Los Angeles.

“We really came together as a team and we were all proud of the work,” Hubbard said of the 60-person team involved in the intensive three-month project with Asian visual effects studio Base Fx.

Hubbard’s feature projects at the Beijing-based company include Transformers 4, Captain America 2, and recently released Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, which grossed more than $65 million on opening weekend.
