About the presentation:
Wyandot Elementary School in Dublin, Ohio, started a pilot program in 2017 called the Behavioral Learning Classroom (BLC) to act as an alternative for students with emotional and behavior disorders (EBD) ranging from attention deficit hyperactivity disorder and autism spectrum disorder to Tourette’s syndrome and trauma. While the BLC is not a new pedagogy for educating EBD students in a K–12 environment, differentiators such as a specialized staff, on-site behavioral analyst, and daily data collection make this classroom unique. Through a humancentered approach and ethnographic research, our project identifies and proposes new systems that can be integrated into classrooms with EBD students to streamline communication, increase data efficiencies, prevent teacher burnout, and empower EBD students in general education classrooms.
