Columbus College of Art & Design's Animation and History of Art & Visual Culture programs present a free screening of Tyrus, a tour-de-force documentary about the late Tyrus Wong, a Guangzhou-born, LA-based visual artist and his breathtaking scope of work across multiple artistic mediums. The film includes illuminating interviews and commentary from Wong himself to document how his unique style contributed to the visual design of films as wide-ranging as Disney’s animated feature film Bambi (1942) to illustrations that were vital aspects of set designs in classical Hollywood films such as Rebel Without A Cause (1955) and The Wild Bunch (1969). Tyrus provides a critical historical corrective by spotlighting this seminal, but heretofore under-credited figure in the history of both illustration and cinema. The event is free and open to the public.
