Hear from Shamini Dhana, founder and CEO of Dhana Inc. and associate producer of The True Cost at this free, public lecture at Columbus College of Art & Design. Dhana is CEO of D/Sphere, a creative fashion technology platform founded in 2020 for people to create, collaborate, and storytell through the medium of fashion. D/Sphere empowers the consumer to be the solution to climate change by reengineering second life materials and recreating existing clothing into zero-waste fashion, thereby diverting the 70% of the $3 trillion fashion industry that would end up in the landfill. Dhana also is an associate producer of the documentary The True Cost, created in response to the 2013 Dhaka garment factory collapse (also known as the Rana Plaza collapse), where over 1,300 people were killed in what is considered the worst garment factory disaster ever recorded.

Filmed in countries all over the world, from the brightest runways to the darkest slums, and featuring interviews with the world’s leading influencers including Stella McCartney, Livia Firth, and Vandana Shiva, The True Cost is an unprecedented project that invites us on an eye opening journey around the world and into the lives of the many people and places behind our clothes. The True Cost is a groundbreaking documentary film that pulls back the curtain on the untold story and asks us to consider, who really pays the price for our clothing?

CCAD’s Visiting Artists & Scholars Series is made possible thanks to support from the Ohio Arts Council and the Skestos Endowment Fund for Visiting Artists & Lectures. This talk also is made possible by SWACO.
