Membership in Student Government is an elected and very important leadership position on campus. As a member of SGA, you have the ability to effect change for your major and address the issues and concerns of the student body as a whole on the CCAD campus. Being an SGA rep means leaving a legacy and improving the student experience not only for current students, but also for the future.


Membership and Eligibility Criteria:

Membership is open to any enrolled student who:

  • Is enrolled full time at CCAD.
  • Is in good judicial and academic standing with CCAD


Meetings and Responsibilities:

  • The times for regularly scheduled meetings shall be every Monday from 11 a.m. to noon
  • All meetings are mandatory for student representatives
  • If representatives are unable to attend, all due diligence should be made to inform the executive board prior to the meeting. This will be tracked by the secretary.
  • If a representative misses three meetings, the Student Government has a right to vote for that student’s dismissal from the Student Government
  • If more than half the meetings scheduled for a semester are missed, then the representative is automatically removed from office.
  • All representatives are expected to be engaged within their major community and speaking to students on a weekly basis
  • All representatives are expected to meet with and develop a professional relationship with the Chair/Director of their department and the Dean of the School (if applicable) and have meetings with that person or persons at least once a semester
  • All representatives are expected to represent Student Government in a positive manner
  • All representatives are expected to respond to communications and emails in a timely manner


Timeline:

  • January 22, 2024: Email to be sent out to students. 

  • February 5,  2024: Application to run for Student Government Association opens on myCCAD.

  • March 8, 2024: Applications to run for Student Government Association due by 11:59 p.m. on myCCAD.

  • Friday, March 15–Monday, March 25: Student body voting.

This person shall be the chief executive officer of Student Government, shall appoint all committee chairpersons, and, with approval of the executive board, co-directs budgetary planning and management with the treasurer. Vacancies in offices will be filled by appointment of the President with approval of the general membership. The out-going president will become the President Emeritus for the spring semester and following their term and will give the graduation commencement speech. The President Emeritus will also continue to attend meetings and assist with SGA functions. Meetings with your assigned program chair or liaison(s) should occur at least once a semester.
The Vice President shall be the parliamentarian for the organization and shall assume the duties of the President should the office become vacant, or in the absence of the President. They will keep and have available copies of the current constitution and bylaws. The Vice President will be responsible for scheduling programs. Meetings with your assigned program chair or liaison(s) should occur at least once a semester.
The Secretary shall be responsible for keeping the minutes of all meetings and will provide a copy of the minutes for each officer and keep a master file. The Secretary shall maintain a complete and accurate account of attendance and membership status and will send out an agenda of the following meetings with topics of discussion prior to the meetings 48 hours in advance. Meetings with your assigned program chair or liaison(s) should occur at least once a semester.
The Treasurer shall keep record of all student organization budget sheets and reimbursement forms. This includes updating a folder on the SGA Google Drive that keeps an electronic copy of all reimbursement and budget forms. They will be responsible for researching into how much an event will cost SGA and will attend some of the executive board meetings that deal with budgets and funds.
The Representative for Academic Life focuses on the needs and issues of the student body in regards to academic concerns such as academic classrooms, class availability, types of courses offered, faculty members, theses, reviews, academic advising, technology needs, art displays etc. The Representative of AL will meet with the head of Academic Life to keep them up to date on current Student Government affairs.
The Representative for Residence Life focuses on the needs and issues of residential students at CCAD. This representative should be a student currently living in the residence halls with plans to live in the residence halls during their entire term (2022-2023). The will regularly meet with The director of Residence Life and will serve specifically the students living on campus.
The Representative for Marketing - Design and Print Media will be the primary marketing and print media designer for SGA, focusing on posters, print media, photography...etc. They will work closely with the social media and design rep as well.
The Representative for Graduate Students focuses on representing the Graduate Studies program and will emphasize that there is no exclusion between the graduate and undergraduate student programs. The Graduate Student Representative shall meet with the head of Graduate Studies once a month to update them on what has been going on as well as then bring back information to the general Student Government.
The Representative for International Students focuses on representing the International Student body, will look for ways to bring a sense of diversity to the CCAD community. The International Students Representative shall meet with the head of International Affairs once a month to update them on what has been going on as well as then bring back information to the general Student Government.
The Representative for Transfer Students focuses on representing the specific needs and concerns of transfer students at CCAD. They will be the voice of transfer student needs and will work closely with the Director of Student Engagement and Inclusion to help plan the orientation program for transfer students to CCAD.
The Representative for Marketing - Design and Print Media will take primary executive responsibility for SGA activities that promote diversity and inclusion, heighten cultural sensitivity and racial integrations; and create a more inclusive college community. They will also work alongside the Program Coordinator for Inclusion and Leadership Development to plan Heritage Month events.
