Filmmaker Laurel Powers Miller (Cinematic Arts, 2014) lives in Columbus with husband Zach Miller and cat (Dana) Scully. She does a wide range of freelance work, ranging from wedding videography to motion design for lyric videos. You can find samples of her work on her personal website; she shares some of her favorite video pieces below.

Belland/Price Wedding

A majority of my freelance work is shooting weddings, sometimes photo but mostly video. In May of this year, I was so honored to shoot both photos and video at the wedding of CCAD's very own Charlotte Belland and her wife, Amy Price. It was such a fun and beautiful wedding to shoot, particularly because of its setting at the Columbus Zoo! There's nothing quite like having giraffes walking in the background of a couple saying their vows.

Fashion Week, “Oxygen” (music video)

I have loved music videos for a long time, so it was exciting to be a part of making one. I helped shoot some of this music video for a local Columbus band called Fashion Week, but my primary role was editing. The shoot was fast paced, real-time dodgeball playing, so the outcome of the video relied heavily on how it was cut. It was a very fun shoot to be a part of, and the challenge of editing for both comedic timing and continuity was very rewarding.

Truslow, “Lover” (music video)

Another frequent type of freelance project I get is doing lyric videos. I have done them for individual bands and artists and also through a larger company in Atlanta called Orange. Most of the time, I create motion design lyric videos, but my favorite one was a little different. I also really enjoy hand-lettering, and for this video, I lettered every lyric onto cards and shot video of each card. It was fun and challenging to put together, and I think it fit the vibe of the song much better than a typical motion design video would have.
