Lead Design Project Architect, Target
Ken McQuade, AIA is a licensed architect in Minnesota and Wisconsin with over 30 years of experience. He has worked for nationally recognized architectural firms on a wide variety of building types over the years, including educational, multi family residential, and civic / cultural projects. He has spent the past 12 years as a Lead Design Project Architect for Target Corporation in Minneapolis. During this time, Ken has been instrumental in helping develop the “Small Format” strategy for Target. This shift in thinking has allowed Target to evolve from full size suburban boxes to much smaller neighborhood scale stores which are located on or near college campuses, in downtown business districts, and in dense suburban locations. This transformation has allowed Target to open stores and serve the guests in locations that would have previously been considered not feasible due to various physical and operational constraints. Ken is a big believer that while the digital side of retail continues to grow, well designed stores continue to play a critical role in helping sustain that growth and that creating inspiring and convenient retail environments will always be a key element in engaging with the guests.
