International Sculpture Center (ISC) recently announced that alumnus Ian Alexander Horn received honorable mention in the Outstanding Senior Achievement in Contemporary Sculpture for his senior thesis piece. Along with others, Horn will be recognized in the October 2010 issue of Sculpture Magazine, which ISC publishes, as well as the Grounds for Sculpture’s fall/winter exhibition catalogue.
Fine arts alumnus achieves honorable mention for sculpture
The new Artist in Residency (AIR) Program at The Works, an interactive learning center in Newark, OH, has selected Erinn Bessler (Fine Arts, ’09) as the first artist to be featured in its glass studio. Bessler, who will begin her four-month residency September 1, will oversee classes, give glassblowing demonstrations, and interact with local schools and organizations. Her art work will be available for purchase in The Works Gear Shop.

Liminal possession, an exhibition of sculptural installation and drawings by Soo Sunny Park (Fine Arts, ’98) runs through July 17 at Good Citizen Gallery in St. Louis, MO. Park has shown extensively throughout the country and her work has been featured in Sculpture Magazine and Art in America. She is a recipient of the Joan Mitchell MFA Grant and grand prize winner of the 19th annual Michigan Fine Arts Competition.

Nationally-acclaimed painter Dean Mitchell (CCAD ’80) has an exhibition through May 2, 2010 at the Leepa-Rattner Museum of Art in Tarpon Springs, FL. James Baker (CCAD '02) is one artist in a large salon-style exhibition of 200 works at the Project Space 176 in London. On view through May 9, 2010, The Library of Babel / In and Out of Place includes painting, photography, sculpture, and video and is inspired by Argentine writer Jorge Luis Borges' short story The Library of Babel (1941). Fine arts alumnus in group show in London
Kristine Schramer, associate professor of Fine Arts, Alysse Gafkjen (CCAD, '09), and Ryan Orewiler (CCAD, '04) are three of the local artists with work in the Italian Inspired exhibition on view in Upper Arlington's Concourse Gallery through October 23. A reception will be held Monday, Oct. 5 from 5 - 7 p.m. The gallery is open Monday through Friday 8 a.m. - 5 p.m. and is located in the municipal services center, 3600 Tremont Rd.
CCAD faculty, alumni inspired by Italy
CCAD alumni and faculty are participating in the Ohio Art League's 100th anniversary exhibition. HERE and Beyond: Ohio Art League's 100th Anniversary Exhibition, is at the Ohio Arts Council’s Riffe gallery in downtown Columbus. The 16 featured artists include CCAD alumni Sandra Aska ('61-64), Mary Fahy ('94), Sarah Fairchild ('94), Curtis W.M. Goldstein ('84-'86), Brent Payne ('06), Stephanie Sypsa ('04), and Alicia Jean Vanderelli ('08); and CCAD Liberal Arts instructor Carol Boram-Hays. The exhibition is on view through October 25, 2009.
