Alumnus directed video up for two VMAs

Advertising & Graphic Design alumnus John Urbano’s directorial work for British pop band One Direction is paying off with two MTV Video Music Award nominations.

Urbano directed the video for One Direction’s hit “What Makes You Beautiful,” which is up for VMAs in the categories of Best Pop Video and Best New Artist.

The video, which features the five-member boy band walking on a California beach, premiered on Aug. 19, 2011, and now has more than 200 million views on Vevo, a music video viewing site.

The Best New Artist category is currently open for fan voting: click here to vote. The VMAs will air on Thursday, Sept. 6.
