Alum's outdoor mural on display in Short North
The Short North Alliance and 11 partner galleries and art institutions launched an outdoor mural series for a second time Feb. 18, including a work by Joe Lombardo (CCAD 2006), Fine Arts alumnus and CCAD adjunct instructor.
“The mural series was one of the most talked about temporary public art exhibitions we have done in the District in many years,” said Betsy Pandora, executive director of the Short North Alliance. “Everyone wanted them back, and we’re glad that we’re able to continue this exciting and popular series in 2014."
Lombardo's mural, Lot Primaries, is on display at 459 N. High St., and is sponsored by Art Access Gallery in Bexley.
All participating artists in the exhibition, titled Viewpoints: Murals by Young Professional Working Artists, are either young professional artists under the age of 40 or young-at-heart emerging artists who regularly support and mentor artists under 40.
The murals are installed on the exterior brick facades of 11 buildings along High Street in Columbus' Short North Arts District and consist of high resolution images that are printed on vinyl and heat-adhered to buildings.
Each participating gallery in the Short North will have an opening for the exhibition on Feb. 28 from 5:30–8 p.m.
Lombardo's work is also part of the Hilton Downtown and the Ohio State Supreme Court permanent collections.
Lombardo is from Elyria, OH, and he attended Midview High School. He now lives in Columbus, OH.
