Beeler Gallery Director Michael Goodson named senior curator of exhibitions at Wexner Center for the Arts

Life at CCAD, Beeler Gallery Director Michael Goodson

Michael Goodson, Director of Exhibitions at Beeler Gallery at Columbus College of Art & Design, has been named Senior Curator of Exhibitions at the Wexner Center for the Arts.

“This is a fantastic opportunity for Michael,” CCAD President Dr. Melanie Corn said. “And although I’m sad to see him leave, I’m glad that we’ll continue to benefit from Michael’s exceptional curatorial talents here in Columbus.”

In his nearly five years at CCAD, Goodson oversaw the renovation of the gallery (previously known as the Canzani Center Gallery) and was essential to the addition of a state-of-the-art screening room. But his lasting legacy will be the elevation of the level of exhibitions and visiting artists at CCAD’s Beeler Gallery.

Recent visiting artists include the award-winning author Sherman Alexie, renowned animator J.J. Sedelmaier and The New Yorker art critic Peter Schjeldahl.

Goodson organized single artist exhibitions including Charles Atlas: The Waning of Justice, Diana al-Hadid and Dennison W. Griffith: Another World, which was on view from Jan. 8 through March 31, 2016, and featured work by CCAD’s beloved former President.

Goodson has also worked closely with Assistant Director Ian Ruffino to organize several upcoming assemblage shows, including an exhibition featuring Aaron Fowler, whose work is in the Saatchi Gallery Collection in London and the Rubell Family Collection in Miami.

“I’m really proud of what we’ve accomplished here, and I feel secure that the tenure of this programming will continue,” Goodson said.

Goodson previously worked at James Cohan Gallery in New York.

He will start his new role as Senior Curator of Exhibitions at the Wexner Center on July 1. CCAD will announce plans for his replacement at a later date.

CCAD attracts and grows exceptional curators, and Goodson continues a legacy of CCAD gallery directors who have gone on to success at other high-profile institutions. Before him, Dr. Natalie Marsh went on to join Kenyon College as the inaugural Director and Chief Curator of the Gund Gallery, and James Voohries went on to become the John R. and Barbara Robinson Family Director of the Carpenter Center for the Visual Arts at Harvard University.
