Columbus CEO & Columbus Dispatch praise Dr. Melanie Corn
In March 2016, Dr. Melanie Corn became the first female president at Columbus College of Art & Design.
And the press has been taking notice of her impact on CCAD. Columbus CEO and The Columbus Dispatch recently highlighted Dr. Corn and praised her work at the college.
“As an art history student, Melanie Corn recognized that art could not only document culture, it could change it,” a piece in The Columbus Dispatch says. “Now, Columbus College of Art & Design’s fifth president — and the first woman to serve in that role — is setting a vision for the school in which students and graduates can pursue a creative practice that makes a difference, as well as enabling them to make a living and feel fulfilled.”
It’s not hard to see what attracted Dr. Corn to CCAD.
“CCAD is a place where we believe in art for art’s sake and education for education’s sake, but we also believe that higher education today is a big investment, and we should work with our students to make sure they get a good return on their investment in education,” Dr. Corn told Columbus CEO.
The CEO piece went on to praise CCAD and its impact on Columbus.
“Founded in 1879 as Columbus Art School, the institution has graduated thousands of artists, designers and creators,” the CEO piece says. “Alumni are around the world and in the employ of all types of companies, including places like American Greetings, DreamWorks, General Motors and Nike.
“CCAD is also a key part of Columbus’ vibrant creative economy. A Columbus Partnership study from 2012 finds the city’s creative sector generates over $3 billion annually in business, $932 million in wages and $67 million in state and local tax revenues and employs more than 25,000 people.”
