Congratulations to Beeler Gallery Director of Exhibitions Jo-ey Tang, who curated arms ache avid aeon, featuring work by four of the founding members of queer art collective fierce pussy, which was lauded by Artforum as a “timely celebration of these artists’ impact and of their robust and sustaining mode of direct action,” whose “blessedly slow programming” presentation “allows for leisurely presentations of individual work from each of the group’s’ four pragmatic prophetesses in addition to presenting their collective output.” Read more here.
Visiting Faculty Tosha Stimage (Fine Arts, 2011) is among the artists whose work is on view in the San Francisco exhibition Vanguard Revisited: Poetic Politics & Black Futures, which revisits the controversial 1968 showing at the de Young Museum of the photographic essay Black Panthers by Pirkle Jones and Ruth-Marion Baruch, reported Art Daily. Stimage is one of four contemporary African-American artists and art collectives whose work is included in the new exhibition alongside those from 50 years ago. Read more here.
Artfluential founder Marshall Shorts (Industrial Design, 2006) will be part of a Columbus Metropolitan Club panel discussion regarding Africentric education on Wednesday, Feb. 13, and CCAD’s President, Dr. Melanie Corn, will join the CMC for a panel discussion on the state of Downtown Columbus on Wednesday, Feb. 20. Annie Chrissy Burley (Animation, 2016) was selected from the Greater Columbus Arts Council for its new “Space & Time” residency program, which provides artists 60 days of free studio space to create work. Read more here.
Simone Noronha (Illustration, 2011) will speak at Columbus Society of Communicating Arts on Feb. 21 at Gateway Film Center. Noronha is a New York-based illustrator and art director whose clients have included The New York Times, Google, Pitchfork Media, The Wall Street Journal, The New Yorker, Starbucks, Adobe, and Lucky Peach magazine. CCAD Animation students created short films encouraging moviegoers to silence their cell phones and visit the lobby for refreshments at Columbus Association of Performing Arts screenings. The shorts will be screened as part of the Drexel Theatre’s “America’s Greatest Films” series on Tuesday, Feb. 5, at 7 p.m. Admission is free. Read more here.

The Sean Christopher Gallery in Columbus’ Short North neighborhood hosts the opening reception for its Eighth Annual Young Hearts Juried Exhibition on Saturday, Feb. 2, from 6 to 10 p.m. Featuring work from CCAD’s Fine Arts and Master of Fine Arts students, the evening includes a presentation of cash awards at 8 p.m. with guest juror Kelly Olshan and Sean Christopher Gallerist John Joseph McCutcheon (Fine Arts, 1979). Adjunct Instructor and comic book artist Uko Smith (Illustration, 1993) will have a nine-week residency at Bexley High school this semester, teaching students how to create comics from start to finish. The residency, funded by the Bexley Education Foundation, pairs Smith with three instructors, including Helma Groot (Fine Arts, 1989), and was covered by ThisWeek News Bexley. Read more here.
