Assistant Professor Robert Loss’ new book, Nothing Has Been Done Before: Seeking the New in 21st Century American Popular Music, received a writeup in Pop Matters magazine. ”Loss doesn't just give us a list of the best new music of the century and explain it. That would be too easy. Instead, Loss does the dirty work of defining the new, categorizing it in an in-depth but understandable way, and thus equips the reader to hopefully recognize the new as it's happening.“ Read more here.
Comicon.com highlighted Assistant Professor Emi Gennis’ new comic Baseline Blvd in its roundup of highlights from indie publisher Kilgore Books’ spring 2018 art comics. Baseline Blvd is a mostly wordless autobiographical comic that explores grief and its feelings of anger, guilt, and isolation. It depicts the 43-mile drive from Gennis’ home in southeastern Kansas to a small cemetery in rural Missouri. Read more here.
President Melanie Corn spoke with Columbus Alive about the new visiting artist series, Art. Design. Values., which kicks off with filmmaker and activist Bree Newsome’s campus visit on March 21. While discussing the four CCAD values that are the theme of each event, Corn said, ”We didn’t really change our mission as an institution, but we realized that CCAD didn’t have very strongly articulated values. Not only are we educating students to join the creative workforce, but we’re also educating them to be creative citizens for the world.“ Read more here.

Jason Borders (Fine Arts, 2009) has earned press nationwide, including a feature in US News and World Report, thanks to an AP story about his work carving and etching intricate, geometric patterns into bleached animal skulls of all sizes. The finished pieces look like white embroidered lace on bone. Read more here.
The partnership between CCAD and plus-size clothing company ELOQUII was highlighted in an article by Fashion Mannuscript. Students in CCAD’s Advanced Pattern Drafting class were tasked with conceiving, designing, and creating plus-size garments, which they received feedback on from ELOQUII executives. Read more here.
