As We Are makes headlines

Advertising & Graphic Design, CCAD Professor Matthew Mohr As We Are Sculpture 1

"Words can't really do it justice," said Columbus Business First Editor in Chief Doug Buchanan describing As We Are, a new interactive sculpture by Columbus College of Art & Design Advertising & Graphic Design Associate Professor Matthew Mohr. The work, unveiled on Thursday, Aug. 31, 2017, at the newly renovated Greater Columbus Convention Center, is a multimedia display in the shape of a human head that projects visitors' faces onto its form.

"You can go to Chicago and see The Bean, you can go to Denver and see the big 12-foot blue bear outside the convention center," Don Brown, executive director of the Franklin County Convention Facilities Authority told Business First. "And you can come to Columbus and see As We Are."

See the work in action in a Business First video and slideshow presentation. You can see them here.

As We Are, the interactive, head-shaped LED sculpture by Advertising & Graphic Design Associate Professor Matthew Mohr is “a not-so-subtle commentary on social media and the role it plays in our culture today,” said the Huffington Post.

The Columbus Dispatch also praised As We Are, writing, "Visit Chicago and you’ll likely make a pilgrimage to The Bean, the shiny sculpture that’s become an icon for the Windy City. Columbus has long sought a defining image like that, and on Thursday, officials unveiled a work of digital art that it hopes will serve that purpose. As We Are, created by Columbus College of Art & Design professor Matthew Mohr, made its debut during an invitation-only event at the just-renovated Greater Columbus Convention Center."
