Farewell, Class of 2020

It’s official: the Class of 2020 has joined the ranks of our valued CCAD alumni. See some of their memorable photos, decorated mortarboards, and even watch a video of the ceremony on our graduation page, ccad.edu/2020graduation. Plus, learn more about some of the members of the class who earned particular distinction as Outstanding Seniors and as valedictorians (this year, we had two: Bridgette Clifton and Alayna Marguerite Fogle).

Chroma: Best of CCAD debuts online Thursday

See and celebrate the work you and your fellow students have created this year as Chroma: Best of CCAD goes online for the first time ever. This annual exhibition of student work—featuring about 2,000 works in all—is presented online for the first time ever at ccad.edu/virtualchroma starting Thursday, May 21.

See Virtual MFA Thesis Exhibition starting Thursday

Witness the remarkable talent, creativity, and complex thinking of CCAD’s Master of Fine Arts in Visual Arts: New Projects candidates, presented online for the first time in CCAD’s 141-year history, in the Virtual MFA Thesis Exhibition. These second-year MFA candidates have created a diverse array of works that explore their vision, made manifest in 2D, 3D, and digital works spanning a variety of media. See them starting this Thursday, May 21.

Summer activities survey

Want to join an online book club this summer, practice cooking together (virtually), or stream movies with your fellow CCAD students? Or would you rather just chill? Student Affairs would like to know how they can meet your needs. Please fill out this brief survey to help them develop summer programming that suits you.

COTA summer schedule

Staying in town for the summer? As a reminder: your CCAD ID gets you free COTA rides during the academic year, but not during summer break. But, in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, COTA is offering free rides to all for a limited time. Just remember to wear a mask—it’s required—and board the bus from the back.

CCAD goes live continues with Photography alum

CCAD goes live, our series of online conversations with CCAD alumni and notables in the worlds of art and design, continues next week with photographer Kelsey McClellan (Photography, 2012). Hear from her on Tuesday, May 26, at 6 p.m. when she joins Photography Chair and Fulbright Scholar Darren Lee Miller for a conversation about her work in a talk co-hosted by CCAD on Instagram Live.

Catch up with Pixar producer, CCAD grad

CCAD has long had a reputation as a go-to talent source for some of the world’s biggest animation studios. Earlier this month, one of our accomplished alumni, Dan Scanlon (Illustration, 1998), joined Animation Chair Charlotte Belland for a live Q&A about his work as Vice President of Creative at Pixar and director/co-screenwriter of the new, critically praised animated film Onward. If you missed the conversation (or just want to listen again), you can watch the video online now.

CARES Act update

Did you see the latest update to ccad.edu/publichealth? Students who receive emergency financial aid courtesy of the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act will not have that grant counted toward their gross income (and therefore won’t have to pay income tax on it). Visit our Public Health page for more regular updates on CCAD’s response to COVID-19. And as always, if you have questions that you don’t see covered there, please email publichealth@ccad.edu.

It’s the cat’s meow

CCAD community members continue to come together to share their work—and their day-to-day lives during the COVID-19 pandemic—on social using the hashtag #CCADcreateaway. Be sure to explore the hashtag to see what everyone’s up to, and tag your own contributions, too! Below, check out a still of work by Loren West (Animation, 2020) who used a rotoscope technique in the creation of their experimental animation, Cats.

Visit the museum from your couch

From virtual tours of museums and parks to apps that will help you destress, work out, and even find a job, head over to our resource page for support during the coronavirus pandemic.
