In his motion picture directorial debut, Nathan Greno, who studied Illustration at CCAD, pulled down a $49-million opening weekend and received a Golden Globe nomination for the film Tangled. Now he can add the Joseph V. Canzani Alumni Award for Excellence to his many accolades.

Illustration Alumnus Johnny Yanok (CCAD, 1998) is one of two featured artists at Rivet gallery. His work will be on display, and for sale, through Sept. 28. Rivet is a designer toy and art gallery located in the Short North arts district in Columbus. They carry a variety of toys and collectibles along with a new art show opening the first Saturday of each month to coincide with the Short North’s monthly Gallery Hop.

The New York Times determined that “all the news that’s fit to print” last week should include the work of two CCAD alumni. Michael Carney (CCAD 2004), who won the 2011 Grammy for Best Recording Package for art direction on the album Brothers by the Black Keys, was interviewed as part of a story on how the digital revolution is affecting both record sales and album design.

A little patch with a big message designed by a CCAD alumnus is going on the uniforms of Little League baseball and softball players worldwide. “Get on Base, Not on Drugs” is the message about to be stitched on the uniforms of Little League players throughout the world after Brent Woodard (CCAD 2000) fielded the assignment to help educate youth about anti-drug efforts in Southern Ohio. Woodard’s The Rock Cries Out Studios is in Lucasville, OH, where the artist lives with his family.

Alumnus Paul Hamilton (CCAD 1988) recently was announced as the recipient of the Phil Desind Award, given annually by the Butler Institute of American Art to an outstanding representational work. Hamilton, who studied Illustration at CCAD, was recognized for his oil painting Ohio Steel, Warren, Ohio.
