In anticipation of the 70mm screening of Ready Player One at the Gateway Film Center, CCAD juniors Rachel Turnwald, Jonathan Hockaday, Shiya Tong, Sarah Mauk, and Matt Rambo converted the nearby Cold Stone Creamery space into a re-creation of the CCAD On Mars exhibition. Middle school students in Franklinton will soon have the opportunity to learn how to create comic books when CCAD launches a new program designed to bring art and design educational experiences to underserved youth. It marks the first time that CCAD has brought such a program to underserved youth at a charter school in Franklinton. The goal is to help overcome barriers of affordability and accessibility by bringing visual art education to students who may not be exposed to it. Read more here.

Melissa Estro (Fashion Design, 2001) and Josh Starcher (Fine Arts, 2001) collaborated on an art installation called Real Estate Goldmine. Former CCAD teacher and Columbus-born artist Alice Schille (1869 ““ 1955) was chosen as one of the first inductees into the Columbus Museum of Art’s new Ohio Artists Hall of Fame. Read more here.

Henri Linton Sr. (Fine Arts, 1966), director and curator of the University Museum and Cultural Center at the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff, is among interviewees in the HistoryMakers project. This Chicago-based nonprofit uses video to create an oral history of influential African-Americans across all industries. Read more here.

As a part of Beeler Gallery’s event An Art Book Affair in February, students from CCAD’s sophomore and junior Fine Arts intensive classes co-produced an art book alongside the organizers of Copenhagen’s art book fair One Thousand Books. The book was published in Copenhagen and it’s now available at CCAD’s Ampersand Emporium location on campus. Read more here.

Happening now in CCAD’s neighborhood: groundbreaking in what is billed as the nation’s first social justice park, which will include inspiring quotes, public art, and guidance on making social change.
