Philanthropy meets fashion

Hear from Fashion Week Columbus’ headline designer Alex Vinash in Philanthropy Meets Fashion on Thursday, Oct. 12, at 6:30 p.m. The free event is part of Fashion Week Columbus.

 

Quality time with the fam

Hot shop demos, internship experiences, and a reception with President Melanie Corn — all are on the agenda for Family Weekend on Friday, Oct. 13, and Saturday, Oct. 14. RSVP now.

 

ICYMI: name change details

CCAD recognizes that students may prefer to be addressed by a name other than their legal name for a variety of reasons. While there’s no single-step process to change your preferred name across all of our systems, you can click here to learn how to update your name and identify your gender identity within systems such as Self Service, Go Studio, and Go Mail.

 

Creative coaching

Get ideas, advice, and inspiration from Creative Coaches, upper-class students who are available to offer support to all students weekdays in the Learning Resource Center on the first floor of Crane.

 

Hit the books

Through Friday, Oct. 13, stop by Packard Library for its semiannual book sale. All books are $1, cash or check is accepted, and proceeds go toward improving the library space. (Sorry, no vendors.)

 

Election 2017

Mark your calendar: Election Day this year is Tuesday, Nov. 7. The deadline to register to vote in Ohio is Tuesday, Oct. 10. Find details on registration here.

Red Wheelbarrow on a roll

Support the invigorating writing scene here at CCAD: Attend Red Wheelbarrow's next event on Wednesday, Oct. 11, at 6:30 p.m. in the Canzani Screening Room. The series provides faculty and students the opportunity to share work in poetry, fiction, creative non-fiction, comics, and screenwriting.

 

They have designs on Columbus

The Center for Architecture and Design celebrates local design during Design Week Thursday, Oct. 12 – Saturday, Oct. 21. View design-related tours, attend an opening reception for a new exhibit, take a walking tour, and more.

 

Catch a rising star

Catch Rising Star, a spoof on singing reality competition shows like The Voice, by VOX, the Columbus Gay Men’s Chorus’ premier small group ensemble. Student discount tickets are available for the performances on Friday, Oct. 13, and Saturday, Oct. 14. A limited number of free tickets for the Saturday evening performance are available on a first-come, first-served basis; email Maria D'Apololito at [email protected] for details.

 

CCAD Night Owls take flight

Be there to cheer on CCAD's basketball team, the Night Owls, as they take on players from around Columbus every Sunday. The next game is Sunday, Oct. 15. Find the full schedule here.

Get a taste of healthy eating at Fruits & Veggies — Eating the Rainbow, a cooking demo on Monday, Oct. 16, at 11 a.m. that includes instruction about nutrition and basic cooking techniques, plus delicious samples, more.

Artist talk: Kent Lambert

Thursday, Oct. 19, hear from Chicago-based musician and media artist Kent Lambert as part of the Beeler Gallery Visiting Artists & Scholars Series. The screening will feature selections from the Video Data Bank’s Videoworks Vol. 1 compilation, music videos, and the first two installments of an ongoing mixed-reality series.

 

First, You Hustle

First, You Hustle is a podcast from CCAD’s Career Services office on starting your creative career, with advice from alumni and employer guests, segments with students, faculty and staff, and how-to guides on special topics. Episodes are released every two weeks during the semester. Episode 1: The Pitch and Episode 2: The Application Process are available for your listening now.

Meet one-on-one with employers and learn about jobs and internship opportunities at the Connections Career Fair on Friday, Nov. 3. The registration deadline is Friday, Oct. 20.

 

Our Queer Family

Join the Queer Alliance on Friday, Oct. 20, at 5:30 p.m. in the Canzani Center Atrium for Our Queer Family. Get to know our LGBT+ community and hear guest speakers discuss queer culture at CCAD. Plus, snacks!

 

Invasion of the Big Boo

Last day for Kim Faler

The Beeler Gallery exhibition Kim Faler: This Must Be the Place, a video and sound installation based on the Mary Oliver poem I Go Down to the Shore, closes Friday, Oct. 20. See it while you can.

 

Fall Studio Days

Remember, Fall Studio Days are Tuesday, Oct. 24, and Wednesday, Oct. 25. These days are intended to be an opportunity for you to catch up on your work. There won't be class either day, but halls, labs, offices, and all other CCAD facilities will be open.

 

Fashion students win big

Three Fashion Design students recently won recognition from the International Textile and Apparel Association. Carrie Ackley (Class of 2019) won the ITAA Regent’s University London: Fashion Design Award, and Carissa Gooding (Class of 2019) and Damien Tobi (Class of 2018) both had work accepted for the ITAA Creative Design Scholarship Exhibit. Scholarship opportunity

Submit an essay describing your earliest money memory, and you could win a $1,500 scholarship from the National Endowment for Financial Education. The contest ends Friday, Nov. 17. More info here.
