Book illustrated by alumnus ranked #2 on NYT bestseller list
Kristi Yamaguchi’s Dream Big, Little Pig is—to say the least—popular. It’s been featured on NBC’s Today Show and CBS’s The Talk in addition to book signings nationwide. Now, the tale of Poppy the big-dreaming pig, has topped (err, nearly topped—but second place is nothing to scoff at) The New York Times Bestseller List.

Alumna publishes children’s book for e-readers, featured on design blog
“I have become an e-book convert, and I am very excited to announce my first children's e-book picture book, called Amanda and Max, Friends,” said Illustration alumna Patti Gay (CCAD 1979) in an interview with design blogger Kate Harper.
Gay continued, “Although I still love the feel of a real book in my hands, I can see the advantage of having a reading device instead. If you are traveling with a child, it’s great to have several books in an e-reader instead of dragging a stack of them around with you. It is just a different reading experience.”

Alumnus designs album cover for former Van Halen lead singer
Illustration alumnus Darren Goldman (CCAD 1998) recently created the cover art for the self-titled album from rock band HURTSMILE, led by Gary Cherone (who was the lead singer for Van Halen on the Van Halen III album) .
Goldman said, “I teach art to kids and teens and manage a record store in Peabody, MA. Gary, being a regular customer at the store, approached me about doing a painting for the CD. I was thrilled that he liked my work enough to even let me babble about what I do, never mind ask to do a piece for the CD. Sorta crazy.”

Alumna to serve as delegate in mom congress
Illustration alumna Hilary (Meyers) Frambes (CCAD 1992) was chosen as the Ohio Delegate to Parenting magazine’s Mom Congress to be held at Georgetown University in Washington D.C., April 10–13.
“When the Mom Congress contest came up, I saw it as an opportunity to have my voice heard regarding the importance of art education,” Frambes said. “As a mother of two school-aged children and an art advocate, I’m proud to represent Ohio at the 2011 Mom Congress in Washington, DC this year.”
