If you love comics, make comics, or study comics, Comics Crossroads Columbus was the place to be from October 1st-3rd! I had the time of my life both attending CXC and volunteering for it. I also drew a few quick comics based off some of my experiences!

Animation students typically know everyone else who studies animation. This is most likely because of the limited space Animation has for classrooms, so we tend to see everyone from time to time in the same few rooms as always. Also, there's the fact that a lot of animation projects and assignments require the use of the labs for completion. So, even when we don't have a class, there's a good chance we can be found in the labs as usual.

We are about a month into the fall semester, and friend groups are in the final stages of formation. Mostly. For instance, when I was a freshman, I had trouble socializing and finding friends besides my roommates. I didn’t find a solid group of friends until nearly the end of my freshman year. To help speed along this process for others, here are some simple ways to find friends and socialize here at CCAD.

This past week, the animation department had the chance to listen to a CCAD alum, Barbara Benas. Barbara is a former animation student of CCAD who now has worked with many animation studios (such as Cartoon Network and Nickelodeon) and is currently located in New York.

The life of an art student is rough. Between jobs, class, student organizations, and homework, there isn’t always a lot of time or money to take a break and go do something fun. But remember, it's important to take some time out and treat yourself (even if you are low on cash.) Check out these fun and cheap places to check out around campus!

It's a strange feeling, knowing I won’t be going back to CCAD this fall — especially with all the back-to-school commercials! I’ve mentioned the sense of community on campus before, and I don’t think it really leaves you. As an alumni, we are still part of the CCAD family.
I am looking forward to the next chapter of my life. It's been a pleasure writing about my experiences during my last semester.

I will never forget June 26th.
Early Friday morning, I woke up and immediately flipped to the news. Slowly people were gathering outside of SCOTUS, also anxiously awaiting the decision. At 10am interns poured out of the building to alert the press. And then it was announced.
I had to hear it twice to believe it had really happened, "the Supreme Court has ruled in favor of marriage equality". I was met with a rush of both relief and pride in my country.

Born in Columbus in 1940, Robinson grew up certain that she would be an artist. Her artistic development began at the age of three under her father’s guidance. In 1955, she began taking Saturday Morning Art Classes at CCAD (then The Columbus Art School), then formally enrolled as an undergraduate in 1957. Later in 1991, she was given an honorary master’s degree by the previous President, Joseph V. Canzani.

During our time in New York, I have learned many new things about design. A major lesson I have learned is that in order to get a job in the field it is important to know how to connect and talk with other designers. These connections and relationships not only help people in their career but also help them get an understanding of what it is like to actually work at a company. In addition to getting to know industry professionals, I have also become close with classmates, alumni and friendly designers and have a few tips to share about our time in NYC as a class.
